Why Make a Will?

  • Making a Will is the only way to ensure that your wishes are carried out after your death. If you have not made a valid Will, your property will pass according to the Law of Intestacy.
  • It can take a long time to sort out if you do not have a valid Will, causing distress for your family, friends and other loved ones.
  • Unmarried couples may not receive anything from your partners estate if you do not make a valid Will to include them.
  • If you have children you can name Guardians in your Will so that you can ensure that your children will be looked after whilst they are dependant.
  • You can ensure that personal items that may have more sentimental value get allocated to the relatives or friends you require.
  • You can allocate some of your estate to charity.
  • You choose who gets your money and property and not the Government.
  • You may want to ensure that somebody does not inherit any of your estate if you have not had any contact with them for a while.
  • You may want to use a Will and effective planning to reduce a potential IHT bill.
